Most security writing is either marketing or trade craft for other practitioners. What follows is neither. It is written for the person who has to make a decision — a family office director, a general counsel, a principal — and who has no particular reason to trust a security consultant they have not met.
What is a security risk assessment?
Most security decisions are made backwards: the product is chosen first and the reasoning is assembled afterward. An assessment reverses that order. Using armored vehicles as the worked example — where the reasoning is unusually visible — this sets out the six questions the method actually turns on, and why buying the highest available level of protection can reduce the protection you end up with.
Security consulting versus guard services
A guard company supplies personnel to a scope you define. It is not engaged to tell you the scope is wrong.
